When there is insufficient bandwidth, all other data traffic will remain in a queue, while the highest priority data is forwarded first. This ensures that the prioritized traffic (such as the RTP stream of a VoIP connection) is forwarded with the least delay.

With link down detection, the switch is able to detect when a computer is turned off in the network, and respond accordingly by powering down that port into standby mode—for a significant reduction in energy consumption.
